Upgrading Your Drupal Theme from D6 to D7

on Mon, 05/02/2011 - 18:48

Here are my notes, as an outline of what needs to be done when upgrading a Drupal Theme from D6 to D7, taken at Lullabot's Webchick Drupal 7 Tour 2011, in response to a request made in a LinkedIn group. Use at your own risk (and please let me know if I missed anything important or made any mistakes I haven't caught).

For the record, Angie Byron (webchick) and Joe Shindelar led the two-day seminar covering not only theming changes but core and module changes. An awesome seminar!

  • Work on a test copy of your theme.
  • .info file: change 6.x to 7.x
  • No longer, only in D6:

Drupal Web Managers/Content Editors Group Created

on Tue, 04/26/2011 - 08:31

After participating in several discussions concerning Web Managers and Content editors, see Kronda's post and my response, I was encouraged by Dave H. to create a group for web managers and content editors on

Initially I was asked by a groups moderator if the need could be served by the community group. Before I had time to respond, the group grew and people's comments indicated a pent-up desire for a space for support, discussion and shared problem-solving for the many Drupal web managers and content editors.

In two weeks the group has grown from one to 42 members and

Drupal Administrators Need Support

on Fri, 04/08/2011 - 22:42

I just finished reading Kronda Adair's article on Metal Toad entitled "Where's the Love for Drupal Content Editors". Thanks for the great article Kronda.

I've been participating in discussions in Documentation and the Prairie Initiative on, trying to explain what support and information I, as a Drupal web manager, have needed and had a hard time finding. I've not found the right venue for my issues so far on

I believe that Kronda is really addressing the needs of Drupal administrators and web managers, more than content editors, though it depends on the organization.

Editing this site's theme on my iPhone

on Wed, 03/23/2011 - 15:42

Remember Supermoon last Saturday? I left my camera bag (and camera, of course) at home because I was in the middle of putting finishing touches on this site's theme in DrupalGardens. Tearing myself away from my computer to run to the waiting car, I forgot to pick up my bag on the way out.

Friends invited me to go to a local marina to view supermoonrise... so what did I do in the car on the way, since I couldn't take any pictures? I opened this site on my iPhone, then decided to log in. Redesign

on Sun, 03/20/2011 - 00:26 was overhauled and redesigned and went live on November 23, 2010. The earlier website had served the organization from 2003 to 2010.

The site was moved from static HTML pages to a dynamic content management system, Drupal, which allows for more functionality, security, ease of editing and revising, etc. The entire site was rewritten, graphics recreated, photos added, a major effort for the entire Communications team. Web development was supplied by ImageX Media, Vancouver, Canada. See related images in the gallery at right.

Drupal Distros: Can we get closer to point-and-click in Drupal 7?

on Sat, 10/09/2010 - 23:58

Since viewing Jen Lampton's fantastic presentation (Wordpress is better than Drupal), I've given a lot of thought to distros, (especially since I've installed and played with Managing News, Drupal Commons, and Open Atrium and created this site in DrupalGardens).

Before I made the move to Drupal, my design studio developed several sites using Wordpress (after working with some great Python developers, but finding that they had to create everything from scratch). I eventually became frustrated at the difficulties we faced when trying to use Wordpress as a CMS.

I found in Drupal an open and
